Staff and tenants at St. Vincent’s: Honoria Conway came together on November 6 to share their visions for the future of Providence Health Care.

The recent Town Hall meeting at the assisted living residence kicked off a series of facilitated engagement sessions across PHC where employees, patients, residents, family members, clinicians, researchers and volunteers are invited to weigh in on the creation of a new 7-year strategic plan (2019-2026) for the organization.

At Honoria Conway, 18 people gathered to share their ideas. Two major themes dominated the session: What makes PHC unique and irreplaceable? And how can we make PHC the best place where the best people want to work?

Based on the discussion, it’s clear that the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values are held in high regard at Honoria Conway and contribute to a unique sense of identity.

“The mission makes you feel like you’re working towards something, together,” commented Franca, an activity coordinator.

Other participants described the Honoria Conway community as a welcoming, homey and close-knit place where staff and tenants are involved in decision making, planning and recruitment.

“Working here is like working with family,” commented Daniel, an assisted living employee.

Mary, an LPN, echoed his sentiment: “It's a nice feeling going to work and it doesn’t feel a chore,” she said.

One tenant noted that when guests come to visit, they are always impressed with the site and could see themselves living in the same place one day.

Thanks to everyone who attended for sharing your valuable thoughts and opinions -- here's to planning Providence 2026, together!

Studies have shown that neither position nor salary seem to have much to do with one finding meaning in their work.

More than 8,000 people are called to work at Providence – what if everyone felt supported in their ability to shine in their own unique and specialized skill, empowered to provide care to someone at their most-vulnerable in a way that honours every facet of their DNA, and knew all the while their work was contributing to moving the organization ever-closer to the common vision that we all share.

Use the Share Your Ideas and Open Discussion tools below to help us answer this big question:

How do we make PHC the best place where the best people in the world want to work, learn, serve and stay?

    Think about:

    • Why do people work and stay here? What do we have now that works?
    • How can we attract new people to PHC? What do we need to change?
    • How can we retain the people we have? What would it take for you to stay long term?
    • Why might you encourage your friends to work here now? What cultural changes could we make to get you to recruit your friends in the future?

“The Sisters were the original networkers and engagers. They knew that to serve their community well, they had to be out there talking to people. New digital technologies give us the chance to continue this old tradition in a new innovative way.”

    - President & CEO, Fiona Dalton

    We couldn't agree more!

We're so excited to have this online space to hear input and ideas from as many of our people as possible.

Welcome to Bloom, our comprehensive digital engagement platform to help us reach, inform and involve the Providence Health Care community in the development of our new seven-year (2019 – 2026) strategic plan.

For us to be successful, this way forward needs to be meaningful to everyone who works at Providence, as it will guide our decision-making and prioritization across the organization.

And we know that you – the people who live and breathe this work every day – are the best sources of feedback and ideas. We also know that you're busy. And while we would love for everyone to be able to attend every activity, the reality and logistics of that just don’t add up.

So we have taken engagement online, to further complement the in-person activities, group forums, facilitated sessions and pop-ups (aka: carts that will be making rounds on the units in the next few weeks, asking questions and handing out treats) that will be happening across the organization from November to mid-December.

    Bloom: Where Your Ideas Grow

You can access Bloom 24/7 using your work or home computer or smartphones/tablets and stay up to date on upcoming engagement activities, read through key documents, and be part of the real-time story of Providence paving a way forward to 2026, together.

    The best part?

You can contribute to the strategic plan through a wide variety of interactive tools and discussions (e.g., polls, online forums, ideation, etc.), regardless of your shift or your site.

The success of our way forward depends on ideas and feedback from people like you.
