World class starts with the basics. We need to ensure PHC provides the best basic care first to give us the proper foundations to advance.
Basic care includes regular communication with patients. Being responsive to patient questions and concerns. It also involves a person centered designed environment for healing ~ to me this means a clean and organized hopsital, easy access to supplies to prevent waste, setting high standards for basic hygiene (both patient hygiene and environmental hygiene). For basic hygiene, patients should be bathed regularly and heath care workers should follow hand hygiene policies. For environmental hygiene, we need a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities to define who is accountable for what (who takes out the garbage and at what frequency?, who does the laundry and stocks clean linen? who cleans the patient rooms and bathrooms and equipment? who do we call when the above is below expectation?) The basics can all be achieved when we have clearly identified roles/respnosibilties and accountability. We also have to set the expectations and start acting when the expectations are unmet.
