The PHC 7-Year Strategic Plan: What’s happening?

Last fall, physicians were asked to weigh into PHC’s strategic planning process to help influence the future of the organization, and ensure the priorities most important to physicians were surfaced as part of the larger organizational plans.

The strategic plan will guide the decisions and priorities across PHC for the next seven years, and affect our work and patient care.

Senior physician and research leadership continue to work with the organization to help shape 7-year strategic directions and goals.

Engagement data and planning process

November to mid-December:

Mid-December to mid-January

  • All engagement data from across the organization was imported into a qualitative analysis software, NVivo.
  • As a first step, a ‘high sweep’ of the data was reviewed for consistent emerging themes (a “sentiment analysis”). This was shared with senior leadership to validate key areas of focus.
  • Emerging is the need to focus on people and culture, integrated care, exceptional quality (outcomes, safety and experience), and learning and innovation.

February to April

  • PHC will communicate emerging themes to all staff. Some may or may not align directly with the clinical priorities of the medical staff/physicians.
  • The Medical Staff and physician engagement leaders are working with the organization to further align physician priorities as appropriate with those emerging from as a whole.
  • Further analysis and refinement of the feedback and engagement data is underway.

Finalizing the Plan

  • The goal is to share finalized strategic directions and 7-year organizational goals by April 2019.
  • These will be further translated into program/ department/ service plans starting in May 2019.
  • Medical staff and physician engagement leadership will provide opportunities for physicians and departments/divisions to learn more about those directions and goals as they are available.

The amount of rich data that we are combing through is truly compelling and insightful. Thank you for making the time to participate!
